Choosing Between the DLP-2000 Mini Digital Label Press and DLF-1000 Digital Label Finisher

Afinia Label offers two solutions for short-run (< 7500 labels), in-house label printing and finishing.

The Afinia DLP-2000

The Afinia DLP-2000 Mini Digital Label Press

The DLP-2000 Mini Digital Label Press prints in 1600 DPI vibrant color, using the included Memjet-powered Afinia Label L801 Color Label Printer. It also laminates, die-cuts, slits, and rewinds labels at up to 30′ (9.14 meters) per minute, in line. This label press can register to the print using semi-rotary cutting. This is done with the DLP-2000’s 14″ RotoMetrics®, magnetic cylinder that will accept a flexible die up to 12″ in length.

The printing and finishing are done in-line, in one pass, for optimum throughput. If you need to convert label stock to pre-cut labels, the DLP-2000 can also run in full rotary mode, with a 14″-long die, at speeds up to 140′ (42.67 meters).

The DLP-2000 would be your best choice if you have:

  • A need for short runs (<7,500 labels)
  • An existing library of 12″ (or under) rotary dies
  • Repeat customers using the same size/shape labels

For those running a large variation of shapes and sizes, purchasing individual dies may not be feasible. In that case, Afinia Label offers another package: The DLF-1000 Digital Label Finisher, L801 Digital Label Printer and optional Rewinder.

The labels are printed and rewound, at up to 60′ (18.28 meters) per minute on the L801 and Rewinder. The labels are then transferred to the DLF-1000 Digital Label Finisher, where they are laminated, digitally die cut, slit and rewound on 3″ cores.

The speed of this process depends upon the complexity and size of the finished labels. The DLF-1000 uses an XY plotter-style cutter, powered by Summa, to cut any shape. The plotter is driven directly from popular vector graphic design programs.

The DLF-1000 ships with software plug-ins for Adobe Illustrator® and CorelDRAW®.

While the DLF-1000 will not yield as many finished labels per hour as the DLP-2000, it is extremely versatile in its ability to digitally cut any shape without hard tooled dies.

The DLF-1000 plus L801 would be your best choice if you have:

  • A need for short runs (<7,500 labels)
  • A customer base that uses many different label shapes and sizes
  • Do not wish to carry and inventory of flexible dies

Whatever you need, Afinia Label has you covered.
